IIDA Fashion Show 2019

boston, ma

Each year, New England’s Chapter of the International Interior Design Association puts on a fashion show where different architecture and interior design firms create looks made from architectural design materials. In 2019, Sasaki’s team created two looks based on “Orbit City”, the fictional city where characters from the cartoon show “The Jetsons” reside. As a nod to the shows use of both human and robotic characters, the team came up with a human look and a bot look. Partnering with two local industry partners, Erik Rueda Design Labs, and SK & Associates, this team was able to send looks down the runway consisting of materials such as furniture upholstery, acrylic, wood, storefront gaskets, resin, couch backing, aluminum water bottles, window shade mechanisms, and LED strip lighting. These looks were taken to the next level by giving light to the bot look and the ability to raise and lower the skirt on the human look as seen in the video below.
