Found Objects Collar

savannah, ga

This sculpture was created to highlight and emphasize the many aspects of a panic/anxiety disorder and how they play with each other. The suffocating and choking feeling one sometimes feels during a panic attack is represented here in the form of a neck collar. Living with an anxiety disorder can feel stifling, especially for those who are naturally outgoing and bold. Taking something as classic and serious as an Elizabethan era ruff and creating it out of unconventional and whacky materials shows that even though living with this disorder can sometimes feel stifling, the person can still thrive and be their vivacious and outgoing self by working with the disorder, and wearing their collar as a badge of pride.

Media: dog collar, PRISMIAN plastic pieces, plastic bugs, foam carrot, plastic trombone, beads, buttons, plastic toy people, light bulbs, children’s sunglasses, coffee filters, doilies.
